Our foundation was organized in honor and loving memory of Andrea Grace Lucas. Andrea was born April 25, 1995. Everyone she came in contact with felt her gift of courage, strength and love. Her heart was huge and her spirit reached far and wide.
A Message from Andrea's Angels
Andrea, our beautiful 17 year old classmate and friend, had a passion for living life to the fullest. For those who knew her, they saw a fun and lively girl with a smile from ear to ear. You would have never known that Andrea suffered from a life threatening illness because she never complained about it publicly. Andrea had Cystic Fibrosis, or "CF". CF is a disease that causes thick, sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and other parts of the body.
Even though at times Andrea felt weak, she never showed it. In early January of 2013, Andrea caught the flu. To an average person this might mean a couple of days in bed with a box of tissues and some cold medicine, but to a person with Cystic Fibrosis this meant weeks, if not months, spent in a hospital. On February 18th, 2013, Andrea succumbed to her disease.
The loss of such a strong young girl with an unbreakable spirit not only crushed our hearts, but it opened our eyes. Since the day Andrea went to heaven, the world we live in has become completely purple.
Not only did Andrea's close friends and family vow to devote their time to help raise money to find a cure, but so did over 200,000 people all over the world!
From twitter to Facebook, Andrea's name has become very well known. The night Andrea passed, her story flooded the Twitter universe. Thousands of people tweeted #RIPAndrea to the point where it was the second worldwide trending topic on Twitter. Andrea touched many people's lives and will continue to do so for a long time coming.
Andrea Lucas and Cystic Fibrosis are the two reasons you are here today. We are grateful you are here and thank you for your support. We will not stop until a cure is found!
